5 Things that Never Happened to Balthier

I.

Basch is shockingly gentle for a man who has not loved for two years. Or perhaps Balthier should have expected this; he has seen how gentle the man is with the children, even through Vaan’s tantrums, and the reverence with which Basch handles his sword now it is returned to his hands. There is the same care when Basch eases his arm away from where it hides his face. Basch kneels over him on the bed, the first proper one they’ve had in weeks, and it would be kinder, Balthier decides, to put a stop to this swiftly. So when Basch cups the back of his head, his fingers- slowly beginning to rebuild their callouses- carding through the short hair at the nape of Balthier’s neck, Balthier produces one of his charming smiles and guides the captain’s mouth away from his own and instead to the crook of his neck.

“It is not your love I desire, Captain,” he purrs, and is disappointed, though not terribly surprised, when Basch startles away. The older man’s hands shake as he re-dons his clothing, and Balthier tells himself it is only thwarted lust that turns his stomach as the door slams in Basch’s wake.

II.

After Noah dies, Basch takes Balthier bent over the heavy wooden desk in the office now his. The sound of armour left half-on sounds too strongly in Balthier's ears for him to be sure of the sounds Basch makes behind him, but he thinks he sees him rubbing his eyes afterwards. He refrains from comment. He doesn't begrudge the rougher treatment; he only wishes he held his own brothers so dear.

III.

The poor child is half in love with him, he knows. He’s inadvertently seduced her by a charming smile and what she fancies is the tragic story of a young judge turned pirate, and a silk handkerchief placed in too-small hands roughed by work and weapons she’s really too young to wield. Pity would be the wrong word for what he feels when she stares after him, but nevertheless he is careful. When he lets her see him back Basch against the bulkhead of the Strahl, his mouth is less fierce than usual and his hands rest on the Captain’s shoulders instead of pinning his wrists. He seeks not to frighten her away, but merely to make his point. Her feet patter away down the corridor, moving quickly, and he sighs with relief before becoming distracted by Basch’s touch.

He is quite pleased when her eyes, still shockingly blue and innocent, turn toward Fran.

IV.

The poison burns in his eyes even before he realizes the basilisk is moving. For a moment he is almost tempted to laugh; it’s a mundane hunt, too easy for them to have bothered with but for the lure of the bounty. The pain is so intense that he stumbles back, almost falling against Fran’s soothingly familiar curves. He tells himself that it is only that pain that darkens his sight.

The next day, his sight is no clearer. Cures and remedies have had no effect. He can navigate the Strahl by touch and by memory, and he sits comfortably in his captain’s chair, knowing that Fran can navigate well enough from her own seat. It is strange to hear the hum of the Strahl’s drives, to feel her moving, and to not see through the wide windows. He cannot truly believe that he will never see the sky again, not yet. The thought is too great to think through, and numb, like a great wound that has not begun to hurt. But he knows that the others believe it; Ashe’s hands catch him when he stumbles in rising, her disgust at his chosen life softened by pity. He pulls away, forces his usual charming smile, and heads to his cabin.

Basch, with the scent of leather and metal and musk that is already familiar to him, is awaiting him there. Balthier brushes past him, not as easy or graceful as he usually is, and in his own complete darkness cannot pull the door closed behind him fast enough to prevent Basch following him. Turning away, he feels his way over to the bed, reaching instinctively to brush his fingertips along the barrel of his gun as he sits down. Basch’s warm, sword-calloused fingers close over his own, stilling them. He draws them to his lips, kissing them softly, and Balthier suddenly feels moisture in the roughness of his beard that his lurching stomach tells him is tears. Jerking back, he lays down, rolling onto his side. He doesn’t move, however, when Basch lays down beside him and wraps one arm around his waist. Sighing deeply when he feels Basch’s lips on the back of his neck, he curls up comfortably. He will not sleep, he knows, but he can no longer bear to be on the bridge.

***

Hours later, he wakens suddenly to the sound of silence. They are no longer moving, and Basch’s breathing is steady and even along his skin. He stirs restlessly. Basch’s breathing hitches in response, then he feels another kiss laid on his skin. Balthier struggles out of an embrace that suddenly feels stifling, but turns to face him. Basch’s hand settles lightly, tentatively on his shoulder, and Balthier sighs in acquiescence.

“This may still be mended,” Basch says.

“I had not taken you for a dishonest man, Captain.” Balthier kisses him passionately to keep
him silent, to distract them both, and struggles to quiet his thoughts. This time, the tears he can taste are his own.

V.

Balthier rages inwardly when Vossler joins their party. He is grateful, of course, for his sword and his strength but he has marked the familiarity that Basch and Vossler share, bound by memories of service together and that, decidedly, interferes with his plans. He has surprised even himself with his patience, even knowing that some spoils are worth any amount of effort, and that Basch is hardly ready to accept his advances so soon after the horrors of Nalbina. But he has been cultivating it nonetheless, with smiles and careful touches, and Basch seemed hesitantly responsive. Balthier knew he could never reveal that, when he smears the potion over Basch’s shoulders, over the old white scars and the newer red ones, he imagines biting there instead, leaving his own mark on the ex-knight’s skin. Basch’s first revisiting of the pleasures of love should have been his.

When Vossler leads Basch to one of the small rooms in the thieves’ den in Low-town with a hand resting on the small of his back, even Fran avoids Balthier for fear of his mood. Her eyes are wary and perhaps a little dismayed, but he cannot spare the feeling to care.

And when he steps back on the Leviathan to allow Basch to deliver the final blow, he smiles.

My friend (I'm not sure if she'd be cool with me revealing her name so...) had her surgery this morning. It too about two hours longer than was predicted, but she is awake and ...semi-lucid. She's still drugged to the gills, so I was not allowed to go see her. I did get to talk to her on the phone. She was slurring something awful and talking about machines beeping and happy juice. I thought she was joking around at first. She wasn't... Ain't morphine a wonderful substance?

But she seems to be doing fine, and was even ok enough to joke a little. She's been stressing about this for a while now, and I'm just glad that she can calm down now. Also, hopefully I get to go see her tomorrow!

I have nothing to say, really. I went to a couple of library booksales this weekend and got shitloads of books. Then, my mother dragged me shopping for winter clothes. To tell you the truth, I'd honestly rather freeze my arse off than go shopping for clothes. I did get a very spiffy scarf, though.
I went to IMDb.com and messed around. Here is a quote from Lion in Winter. Because Anthony Hopkins says it, and he kicks serious arse.
Prince Richard : So! The royal corkscrew finds ME twisted?
It makes more sense, and is funnier, in context.
I also got a Savage Garden cd at the library sales. And now this song has been stuck in my head for more than a day. Since I am feeling generous, I shall copy down the lyrics here, so you people can all get it stuck in your heads. Then I won't suffer alone. Mwaha.
She’s taking her time making up
The reasons
To justify all the hurt inside
Guess she knows from the smile
And the look in their eyes
Everyone’s got a theory about the
Bitter one
They’re saying mamma never loved
Her much
And daddy never keeps in touch
That’s why she shies away from
Human affection
But somewhere in a private place
She packs her bags for outer space
And now she’s waiting for the right
Kind of pilot to come
And she’ll say to him
She’s sayin’

I would fly to the moon and back if
You’ll be
If you’ll be my baby
Got a ticket for a world where we
Belong
So would you be my baby?

She can’t remember a time when she
Felt needed
If love was red then she was colour
Blind
All her friends they’ve been tried for
Treason
And crimes that were never defined
She’s saying love is like a barren
Place
And reaching out for human faith is
Is like a journey I just don’t have a
Map for
So baby’s gonna take a dive and
Push the shift to overdrive
Send a signal that she’s hanging
All her hopes on the stars
What a pleasant dream
Just sayin’

I would fly to the moon and back if
You’ll be
If you’ll be my baby
Got a ticket for a world where we
Belong
So would you be my baby?

Hold on, hold on

Mamma never loved her much
And daddy never keeps in touch
That’s why she shies away from
Human affection
But somewhere in a private place
She packs her bags for outer space
And now she’s waiting for the right
Kind of pilot to come
And she’ll say to him
Just sayin’

You’ll be

It's called To the Moon & Back. Isn't it pretty? Anna loves it, yes, precious, we does.

I have been meaning to restart using my xanga again for a while but was never motivated enough. Well, je reviens! I adore RENT.

I saw RENT last night. I cannot believe that my mom didn't like it! ...Actually, yes, I can. Not one of my better ideas, I guess. Kelly and I had a blast, though.

The cast was kind of wonky. Roger was freakishly tall. Really, freakishly tall. It was scary. He'd have been kinda cute, but he couldn't act. His singing was ok, I suppose, but nothing like Adam Pascal. I adore that man. Brilliant fucker, he is.

The dude that played Mark was a better performer than Roger, but not much of a singer. But he was very spiffy. I liked him. I liked his costume, too. It was stripy.

Maureen was hysterical. She had a star patch on the crotch of her jeans, which she displayed at every oppertunity. And she mooed very well. I was highly entertained. The vending booth was selling a cow, which rather cracked me up. Heh. MOOOOOOOOO!! It's a little hard to see Inida Menzel in that role, especially after seeing her in Wicked as Elphaba, but she's very talented. She pulls it off.

Joanne was good. She sang and acted well and the interaction with Maureen and Mark was well done. There was just this one line that I wish she had done differently. But it was good, anyway.

Collins had a good voice, but he fucked up on I'll Cover You; Reprise, which rather sucks, as that is one of my favorite songs in the show. I just about cried the first time I heard it. And he was so sweet with Angel! They were so purdy together! Made me happy. Very very happy. You know, even when the lights weren't on them (when someone was singing, the lights were up on them and down on the rest of the company), he was like stroking his shoulder or rubbing his back or something. It was really sweet. ^__^

Angel I can only describe as a bunny rabbit on steriod. He was everywhere all once! It was fucking inconceivable. How the fuck is it possible that anyone can have so much energy?! And she was good, too. She did squeak once or twice, but that's rather unavoidable when boys go into their head voice. My sister said that she makes a very lovely drag queen, and I quite agree.

Mimi was, surprisingly, better than the original cast. Of course, I have never really thought much of the one from the original cast Mimi, because she kinda sings through her nose a little, and since Adam Pascal's voice is gravelly, they sound a little wonky together. She totally nailed Out Tonight and I Should Tell You. It was lovely. She was rather pretty, too.

The set was so cool looking! I must admit that a couple of times, I thought that the tables were gonna collapse, as they were all dancing on them and laying on them and jumping up and down and all but attacking them with an axe. But they didn't. Which is good.

All in all, I was very very happy. I came home in a state of euphoria. And am now listening to my cd. With Adam Pascal. >squeeee< Olga's going to see it this Sunday. And I am going to spend the rest of today with my Marina.

I need to burn the cds for Kelly and Marina. Spread the Adam Pascal love. ^__^

For anyone interested, here is the address to a good version of the libretto.

Complete and utter nonsense, as always.

I got a xanga. It's Elven_Psycho, and it has absolutely nothing there yet, so...
pointy: (lalala)
It was on the right!! Ha!! I am so proud of me. I was right. It was the right, it was. Itwasitwasitwas. GO ME!!!

Now for the coherent version of that. I was right when I said previously that Sharpe's scar suddenly and inexplicably switched sides. It went from his right cheek to his left, and it was irritating. But I was right, and I am happy with myself.

Anyway, here is the revised list.

1. Boromir
2. Jack Sparrow
3. Richard Sharpe
4. Aragorn
5. Lestat
6. Draco. I cannot believe I forgot him!! I knew I was missing someone!!
7. Alec from GoldenEye
8. Angel from Rent. (Not that I think he'd enjoy it very much. Hmmm.... And Collins might come after me with a chain saw, but...)
9. Adam Pascal. As just about anyone. Preferably Roger from Rent, but I will happily settle for Ramades. He has such a sexy voice.
10. James Bond, but only of the Sean Connery variety. I mean, Peirce Brosnan isn't bad and all, but Sean Connery is The James Bond.

Actually, I think I might put in Edward Scissorhands instead of Angel. Because he's not gay and doesn't have a boyfriend that would come after me with a chainsaw. And Angel can be my obligatory extra. There we go. All sorted out.
pointy: (Boromir)
Kalinin finally fixed my fucking computer. I feel much better now.

The rehearsal could have gone better than it did. There were so many people missing, but whatever. As long as we sound good there.

I donated blood on Friday, and was all woozy and out of it all day. There is still a bruise on my arm, and you can actually see where the needle went in. It's rather disturbing. But a rather lovely shade of purple.

Speaking of which, I got my dress for the trip. I never though I'd say this, but I actually like it. Bugger. I have issues.

Jacked this from my friend. She had shag, but I decided that I rather wouldn't. So...

Movie Characters I Would Shag Snog
1. Boromir. Let's get that one out of the way, shall we, Capt. Obvious?
2. Jack Sparrow. Obviously.
3. Richard Sharpe. Even though they technically aren't movies. Whatever. I'm not gonna let that stop me!
4. Aragorn. Even though I'm afraid Arwen would come after me with that pretty sword of hers and shove it up my ...nevermind.
5. Lestat. Because he is a beautiful, arrogant asshole.
Extra-->Alec from GoldenEye. Only he'd have to say Strawberries first.

Dear God. That's Sean Bean 3 times out of 6. God help me. I need professional help.
pointy: (lalala)
It really doesn't feel like Opening Night is tomorrow. We are so not ready, but whatever. Screw it. This show sucks no matter how well it is done. Simply because it a dumb story with dumb music and dumb characters and a dumb plot and it is dumb.

That was a very ...wonderful... sentence. Hey, if Sharpe can use 'bloody' 4 times in one sentence, I can do this. Because none of you can stop me. Ahahaha! AHAHAHAHA!! MWAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

You can tell your stressed when you start writing maniacal laughter. With five exclaimation points.
And if you don't know what I am referencing then go read Terry Pratchett, dammit.

In other news, Oscars. LotR got all 11!! Me is very very very very very happy. Me is cuddle Boromir much.
And me is talking like Petalwing. Bugger.

We missed Aragorn's birthday. Shame on us. It was March 1st. But that's ok, because he's quite an asshole in the books.

I told Kate, "Beware, or I will squirt you with the Deadly Milk Carton of DOOM."
I reminded myself of Lord Elrond and mentally shuddered. It was freaky.
I also decided that I like Elrohir better than Elladan. Why, you ask? ...Because. I just do. So there.

Sharpe kicks ass. And now Kelly is reading Sharpe's Tiger and it's uber spiffy.

I'm just really tired all the time, and I still have yet to do my essay. I got an extension til Friday, because of the musical, but I don't think that I will finish by then. Argh. I'll do my best.

My friend from French class promised to bring me the cd of The 3 Musketeers. I was there on it's opening night. As in premier opening night. It wasn't the best show, far from it, but now I can honestly say that I was there at a premier. But there was one song or two that I liked, both sung by Milady, so Cindy promised to lend it to me.

I like llamas. If you have read to here, congrats. E-mail me to say so and I'll give you a cookie.

I now have a love stick! Tremble before me, puny mortals!!

...Sorry. I have eaten waaaaaaaaaaay more chocolate than I should have.

Still, that damn stick is just asking for it. I mean, come on. Aren't you glad now that you didn't get one, Kelly?

RQotD; "I am going to go home today and bite Legolas' ear!!" ~Me. Don't ask. Just don't. Only Kelly'll get this one. Just for you, Faithful Pet Loki.

He loves me

I was on the track today(we ran in P.E.) and I picked a daisy. And started to do the 'he loves me, he loves me not' thing. Appearantly, he loves me.

I don't know who 'he' is, but it's always good to know that I am loved. ^__^ >warm and fuzzy feeling<

I know! Boromir!
Of course Boromir loves me. >nod nod<

And my daddy, too.

My Immortal

Feb. 4th, 2004 11:00 pm
pointy: (lalala)
I'm so tired of being here
Supressed by all my childish fears
And if you have to leave
I wish that you would just leave
'Cause your presence still lingers here
And it won't leave me alone

These wounds won't seem to heal
This pain is just too real
There's just too much that time cannot erase

When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears
When you screamed I'd fight away all of your fears
I held your hand through all of these years
But you still have
All of me

You used to captivate me
With your resonating light
Now I'm bound by the life you left behind
Your face -it haunts
My once pleasant dreams
Your voice -it chased away
All the sanity in me

These wounds won't seem to heal
This pain is just too real
There's just too much that time cannot erase

When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears
When you screamed I'd fight away all of your fears
I held your hand through all of these years
But you still have
All of me

I've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone
But though you're still with me
I've been alone all along

When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears
When you screamed I'd fight away all of your fears
I held your hand through all of these years
But you still have
All of me...

Sorry people. Felt kinda bad about not updating for a while. So I posted complete and utter nonsence. Oh well.

In other news, I found the whole of the Rent libretto. In Russian.

That's me, most of the time. Heh.

Yeah....that's really all I wanted to say.

And, of course, the link for the libretto to Wicked is http://www.theatre-musical.com/wicked/libretto.html. Just for you, Kelly.

For those of you that are still unaware of this, I am now on Go-gaia.com. My username thingy is Isilaime. So go PM me, or face my terrible and fluffy wrath.

And don't tell me it's a dumb name. It's MoonShade in Elvish. And if you still laugh, Strongbow will shoot arrows through your asses.

Tripti said that the Entwives went 'poof'. That sounds fun, don't it?

RQotD; "...he'd be just another local lord, with nothing much to do but hunt, drink, and exercise hus droit de seigneur. Footnote Whatever that was. He'd never found anyone prepared to explain it to him. But it was definetly something a feudal lord ought to have and, he was pretty sure, it needed regular exercise. He imagined it was some kind of large, hairy dog. He was definetly going to get one, and damn well exercise it."

They came home at about 4 today, and the rest of the day was complete and utter chaos. Which was fun.

I finished my movie poster for French, though, which is good. I did it for Fellowship of the Ring.

I cheated a little, though. I didn't really draw the Fellowship. I only did Boromir, Legolas and the Ring itself. I was gonna draw Aragorn too, but he's too damn hard to draw so I gave up. I drew the Ring for reasons that should be rather obvious. I did Boromir because he is my favorite. And I drew Legolas because if I knew that i I didn't, I would be lynched by a mob of raging fangirls. And that would be bad.

As for Frodo, he can go fuck himself. Or Sam, as the case may be.
